Knowing that many struggling West Virginians would benefit from the newly minted Medicare program, Senator Byrd outlined some of its benefits in this August 20, 1965 "Byrd's Eye View," column. Byrd highlighted the many new provisions available to economically disadvantaged widows, divorcees, children, as well as the disabled.
